Come Together

Coke, Mentos, and the Joy of the Lord!

Lili's Testimony

“I’m not just calling you back to where you were as a child. I’m calling you back to childlike-ness.”

These were the words that came back to me from the Lord as I watched the sheer excitement in my Twins today as the plane began to take off. My five year old twins Justice and Jaxon are the same age I was when my parents moved my brother and I from the Northwest to Kailua-Kona in the early 1980’s. I imagine I was every bit as thrilled as they were this morning as we buckled ourselves in to our tiny airplane seats. Their eyes began to widen as the plane engines began to roar. Their whole bodies vibrated with anticipation as we accelerated down the runway. They squeezed our hands tightly as the nose of the plane began to rise. Then, that glorious, thrilling, pit-of-your-stomach moment came when this giant hulking mass of man and metal left the earth and rose into the ether. Justice then looked out the window down on the city of Seattle and shouted with glee, “I can see things!”

When I read the account of Jesus and the children in Mark 10 it feels like this fresh perspective is exactly what Jesus is getting at:

The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them.  The disciples shooed them off.  But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom.  Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.”  Then, gathering the children up in his arms, he laid his hands of blessing on them.” – Mark 10:13-16

As I sit at a cruising altitude of 10,000 feet I leave behind a 10 year work of God in New Hope Seattle to see what God is up to on the Big Island of Hawaii. As the new Pastor of New Hope Legacy I come with the same sense of excitement and anticipation as my Twins on their first flight. I simply want to invite each of you, both those who have been with New Hope Legacy from the beginning as well as those who have just joined, to come with the faith of a child. I believe that, as we do, we will shout with one voice as never before, “I can see things!”
